Happy New Year 2024!
Seriously, this is my mantra this year, CREATE your best year!! For me, that really means CREATE! If you’re a ‘Creative’, then you get it! My mind never stops and neither do my hands. I have something ‘making’ at all times.
While I have pincushions going on in one sewing area, I have the longarm loaded with a quilt. Actually, I have 2 loaded longarms, a Handi Quilter Simply Sixteen and a Forte with Prostitcher, so I can take advantage of my mood! Do you work this way?? Mood driven?
This vintage Double Wedding Ring top was found at an antique mall. I’m using a mix of digitized flowers in the centers, then rulers for ditch stitching and then some free-motion quilting. I’ve got about 3 rows to go and hope to finish this one SOON! I have a YouTube video posted below on the techniques I use with starch and steam. You can see how I tackle the very bottom of this quilt, which is not pretty!
The full video below shows how I work with this uneven and tattered edge. Grab your favorite drink, it’s about 20 minutes long, but gives you all the information for working a vintage top!
I have another video from this quilt when it first started. You can find it here on YouTube, Quilting a Vintage Double Wedding Ring quilt. I’m glad I took the first photo of finding this one, as it shows the REAL story!
I like to put smaller projects on the Handi Quilter Simply Sixteen. I try to touch each machine at least once a day. It may only be for a few minutes, but a little each day might be the only way a piece gets finished!
The other thing I do to keep me at the machines all day is to listen to an audio book on Audible. I give myself that guilty pleasure each month! I also listen to books from my local library, but I can’t always get the ones I want. You can get 2 free books when you sign up for the 30 day trial. If it’s not your thing, just cancel before 30 days! You can find the link here on Audible.
OK, I’d better get crackin’ and get back on the pink quilt. It won’t get done by itself!! Have a great day everyone!
