Can you save every quilt?
I try to save as many quilt tops and quilts as possible! This tattered quilt was found inside another tied quilt. Back in the frugal days of depression era quilting, women would take their old, worn out quilts and use them as batting for their new quilts. I love to find these!
I start by soaking all my quilts and linens. You can find all my cleaning videos on my YouTube channel. I didn’t know if this tattered quilt would stand up to cleaning, but so far it has.
After I soak a quilt for most of a day, then I give it an air dry outside in the sunshine. The combination of sunshine and the chlorophyll from grass, will whiten and brighten your linens or quilts.
I’m hoping for a few good pieces from this quilt, to make other things like needlebooks, bookmarks, etc.
I tried a new oxygen based cleaner and it worked really well. The price is right too! 2 lbs for $7.29, found here on Amazon (aff link) or at Whole Foods if you live near one. I have always used Retro Clean, but this is hugely cheaper, so it may be my new go to!!
I’m off to retreat this weekend and I’m taking this quilt along for the ride. We’ll see what it’s future may bring. I’m hopeful!!
