Make a DOILY Jacket!

How did we get to 2025?!!! It seems a bit surreal when you think back to being a kid and what you thought about the year 2000. I really thought we’d be doing everything the Jetson’s did! I’m sad to not have the flying car, but maybe that will happen in my grandkids lifetime.

Well, I have not slipped off the face of the Earth, but I am certainly not a good one to keep up with a blog. I do much better on daily Facebook posts, so I hope you’ll follow me there if you are so inclined. Today though, I thought this doily jacket would be blog worthy, so I’m taking some time to write about it.

This crazy adventure all started with a Jean jacket from Goodwill in mid-December. I had seen Travis Kelce (from my favorite Chiefs football team) wear something like this to a Sunday game. When I saw that, I had to jump in and make it, immediately!!

His was a whopping $2,250 from a designer, Earthling VIP. I knew I could make it for less, but the hours involved might truly equal his jacket! I’m guessing I put in about 70 hours and at $30-35 an hour, there you are!

I collaged a batch of doilies in a variety of whites, which I think make it more interesting. I also added buttons, beads, hotfix crystals and some embroidery just to make it my own. I have an extensive doily collection, found over many years. If you don’t have this type of collection and wish to, look on Ebay or Etsy, thrift and antique shops. You should find bunches!

If you decide to join in and make your own, do whatever you like! There are no rules to this project. I put together all of the pictures and videos I had in a Youtube video so it would guide you through the process. Enjoy my YouTube video if you’re interested, it’s about 16 minutes long. Make sure to watch the end so you can see the video with me wearing the jacket. It might help you decide!
